Introduction
|
Have you any idea what it would be like to be a child
with no home of your own? In Victoria
over 20,000 children and young people living with family were considered
homeless, in crisis or living in temporary housing.
Fortunately there is a program run by Wesley Mission in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs
called Resilient Kids that supports these children and young people.
Kirstie Marshall, State MP for Forest Hill and
World Cup Champion aerial skier, is passionate about making a difference in
the lives of homeless kids. Kirstie supports this event and encourages others to participate
to provide valuable support to this important organisation.

'Cool Kids'
Cool
Kids is an activity-based program for primary school children who are
experiencing homelessness with their parents. It gives them an outlet to
express how they feel and to meet other kids in the same situation.
During
a 9-week term the kids are engaged and supported while they deal with
feelings of anger, worry, sadness, grief and loss.
The
safe, informal environment creates a sense of belonging. The kids make
friends and build resilience; their self-esteem increases and they perform
better at school.
